The pool at Ysgol Pen Coch is fully accessible for children with complex health needs and limited mobility, with two integrated changing rooms that each include a shower bed, shower facilities, and a hoist system that transfers directly through to the pool, as well as an additional four changing rooms with showers.
The pool is maintained at a therapeutic temperature of 34–35°C to support muscle relaxation, complemented by a warmer ambient air temperature to maximise the benefit for each child.
Many children miss out on the joy of swimming with their peers and families because they do not have access to the right facilities. Traditional pools can be overwhelming and physically inaccessible, making shared experiences difficult or impossible. As a result, these children are often excluded from swimming activities with siblings and friends, leading to isolation and missed opportunities for connection and play
